I have been a resident of Beverly Hills for nearly 20 years, with two sons who have enjoyed the Beverly Hills School District for 9 years. I graduated from Harvard University and trained in the diagnosis and assessment of children’s learning and behavior difficulties. Soon after, I worked as a psychologist with mental health facilities in the Boston area. I have a passion and dedication to high-quality education and ensuring the well-being of children and adolescents. I feel my experience makes me well-positioned to give my absolute best to the Board of Education in this amazing city.
I began my career in Los Angeles as a 6th grade teacher at a small private school in Pacific Palisades, California. During this time I received licensure (hours) for a subspecialty in school psychology. This training exposed me to a wide swath of the most critical school, child and educational issues. I am well-versed in special education and IEP matters, as well as classroom and behavior management in the schools.
As an independent school psychologist, I have worked with nearly a dozen different school districts and their special education departments, in and around Los Angeles. I have presented learning recommendations in close to 500 different IEP (Independent Educational Program) meetings!
At Temple Isaiah our boys enjoyed pre-school and religious school. More recently, I launched a beneficial and entertaining career-readiness project, The Speaker Series, for middle schoolers of the district. Many working professionals visited our schools for this initiative.
I am all about schools and learning. My doctorate degree in educational leadership was awarded based on a study involving teachers' instructive practices. This published study involved a careful analysis and understanding of the characteristics, or “demographics” of segments of Los Angeles. And, as a mom I have enjoyed working with our boys and their friends to join the Science Fair, play in the school band, sing in theatre, and to actively participate in all that BHUSD has to offer! Colleagues say that I a ‘team-player’ and they know me as a passionate professional concerning children and their education. I want to work for our children and their parents!
